Prices of HDDs in Switzerland

The other day I went to a computer and appliances shop around the corner from my office, buying something and asking the price of the Seagate 6.4 GB IDE drive: CHF 699.--or about $475. It's a cheap shop, but not the cheapest. The WDC 6.4 GB I saw some 10 days or so go at CHF 610.-- or about $415 in a comparably non-cheapest store. The point I make is that the WDC is considerably more cheap than the Seagate. Is this true in the U.S. also, SEG fetching premium prices? I didn't check for QNTMs price. I got the WDC 6.4 for my PC at CHF 510.-- or about $345.

Anyway, the WDC 6.4 GB in my new computer is a fine piece indeed: You don't hear nothing! I unplugged the current just to hear the difference: There wasn't any really. The setting instructions for the master/slave pins are printed on the drive itself, so one doesn't need to look in the manual. Very convenient. And of course it's fast, etc. I have Win 95with FAT32 installed. I love it, the drive I mean... <g>.

If sombody could please check into the latest pricees on Pricewatch. I think last time we were at $245 for the WDC 6.4 IDE. Thanks a lot.

Thomas

<<If you look at all of the new Dell ads, the minimum size is 4.3GB with most having either 6.4 or 8.4 sizes>>

My new DELL just arrived yesterday. The hard drive was DOA. It was an 8.4 GB IBM.

Now...why did I ever sell WDC?
