SCSI drives

I will need a SCSI host adapter regardless of what I use for harddrives. I have had VERY good luck with SCSI for peripherals. I use the SCSI interface for scanners, CDR, 3 1/2 MO drives and 5 1/4 MO drives. Installing and removing these components has always been a piece of cake. Once the card is in the computer ( I have installed about 6 Adaptec cards and never had a problem) I plug in these components at will, moving them from one computer to another and I don't have to configure anything! If I want to move an MO drive to a computer with a SCSI card already installed I merely plug in the MO drive and choose an address (rotate a thumbwheel on the back of the MO drive), reboot the computer and it sees it as another drive (D: or other).

I have never installed a SCSI harddrive. I will already have the host adapter for the peripherals so I will have to consider SCSI harddrives. I am willing to spend a little extra for something that is easy to install so I plan on investigating SCSI harddrives. I believe the cost is coming down.

My current thinking is to use IDE drives for C and D and then start adding SCSI drives for E F ...The SCSI drives if I need speed or out of necessity when the IDE host adapter can't handle anymore.

Just my two cents, hopefully we can get some more input on the subject. I don't know anything about EIDE/Ultra33

Regards

SCSI....another Dream Machine site...Linux

Found this site while I was researching multiple SCSI harddrives. Does anyone know if I can get a seperate tower in which I can stack multiple SCSI harddrives? Would it be as simple as just plugging in and removing at will SCSI harddrives into the daisy chain? With the proposed TYAN motherboard in the SuperG configuration would we be able to use 28 harddrives!? The cost of SCSI drives seems to be very reasonable, probably worth the few extra dollars.

The focus of the site is Linux but the hardware recommendations seem to be applicable to Wintel systems.

From the site..
