As I have mentioned elsewhere:

Over the last 15,000 years the human species has continued to evolve to a more humanitarian species.

They did that by learning to think and then transcending our animal instincts with complex abstract reasoning.

They invented democracy and modern ethics.

Some where able to go from primitive concrete thinking, to abstract thinking about humanity and social science that ushered in the new modern humanitarian societies we see today -----

and some could not make the leap!

E.g. Republicans and Trump supporters.
