More Northern Irish arrested for Human Trafficking into the UK - thetimes.co.uk

A Northern Irish couple, Joanna and Thomas Maher, have been arrested at their detached home in Cheshire UK over the deaths of the 39 migrants.

Joanna Maher, the last known owner of the lorry involved in the tragedy, and her husband, Thomas, a road haulage boss, were held in a dawn raid on their house in Warrington on suspicion of conspiracy to traffic people and manslaughter.

Ms Maher is listed as the registered owner of the Scania truck that was carrying the container in which the bodies were found in Grays, Essex.

Joanna Mahr and her husband registered the refrigerated container it in the Bulgarian port of Varna last year. Police have learned the Mahr's frequently flew to Bulgaria' where they 'boarded migrants onto one of their -25C (-13F) trailers'.

Neighbors say the Mahers previously lived in a much rougher housing estate, but last year were able to splash out on their new home. Police sniffer dogs were going through their Warrington, Cheshire home yesterday.

Each truckload of immigrants is estimated to bring in half a million Pounds. Most Asian immigrants are currently sold to work in UK nail salons and cannabis farms.

THE FACE of EVIL. 'Snakehead' human traffickers Joanna and Thomas Maher, who smuggled immigrants into the UK from Bulgaria and Russia. Charged with murder, trafficking and money laundering offenses.

Also arrested is one of the Mahr's drivers, Maurice Robinson. Police are hunting other members of the Northern Irish human trafficking network
