I would like to understand your reasoning.
In Canada, we have had 3 main political parties since about 1960 - The Liberals, The Conservatives (progressive or otherwise) and the New Democratic Party.

In Canada, all three parties basically have a social conscience but as far as leaning left or right their philosophies are

The New Democratic Party (NDP) is to the left politically ... They are strongly supported by labour unions but they are not communist as many in the USA think... there is a communist party that is sort of active but this party has not elected a person to the Federal or Provincial governments since 1951.

The New Democratic party grew out of the a merger of left leaning parties in Saskatchewan in 1961. They have had a series of quite strong leaders Tommy Douglas, Steven Lewis, Ed Broadbent and Jack Layton.
They never won an election though were part of Liberal minority governments with Ed Broadbent and Jack Layton as leaders and they influenced the Liberal party in bringing forward much of Canada's social legislation.

The Liberal Party is slightly to the left of center politically. The Liberals are a supporter of Big Business but it also is responsible for bringing in significant social legislation often stealing planks of the NDP party platform to do it. When in a minority government with NDP support we seem to get the social legislation such as:

Canadian sovereignty: It was the Liberals that were responsible for weaning Canada away from British dominance... They repatriated the constitution from Britain, designed and instituted our own flag. we still in theory have the British monarch as head of Canada but that and the British representatives are basically figureheads now.

Universal healthcare: (which covers basic healthcare including most cancer care (I can testify to this personally being a cancer survivor)... contrary to opinion of the USA... Canadians are not told which doctor to use...we can elect any doctor and look for second opinions that we want. There are delays on some procedures but there is the option to use private health care if on wishes and the patient then bears the majority cost.

Though under attack, it is political suicide to revoke universal healthcare.

The Liberals are responsible in making Canada a multicultural mosaic rather than a melting pot.

However they also have a strong relation with business...so they are left of center politically.

The Conservative Party is to the right politically. They usually are responsible for cutting taxes and programs favouring corporate Canada often at the expense of lower incomes and social programs. They are responsible under Brian Mulroney as Prime Minister in the 1990s for negotiation of the first NAFTA agreement... it was controversial at the time but overall it benefited the economies of both Canada and the USA... though trade irritants were not totally eliminated.

So that is what I mean by my previous statement. This is of course not a definitive discussion but I hope it helps your understanding of Canadian politics.
