Yep, I used to go camping and sleep among the giant sequoia's. Now that you mention it, I remember looking at a cross section of a sawn tree, I could count the forest fires over the hundreds of years and the direction of the prevailing wind at the time. I also remember buying up 4 inch redwood cheap after a big fire because damaged trees had to be harvested within a certain period. So there might be something worthwhile considering. I expect there are a wide range of considerations to fixing future problems. A while ago I watched a utube video of the project fixing the dam that nearly burst a few years back in California. Looked to be a satisfactory result. If it isn't one thing it's another. Infrastructure and good management is so much more prominent then left vs right.
