WFoL, now we know why Pelosi was reluctant to go along with impeachment in the first place. She knows that without Republican support, impeachment would look like nothing more than a partisan coup.

Unfortunately for her, her base of support is pushing hard for impeachment. She was also likely to be swayed by the polls, which at a few points showed support for Trump's impeachment and removal from office. Based on this, I believe Pelosi's hand was forced.

The Republicans, however, have the right idea. They're banding together for the very reason I mentioned above. They're gambling on the notion that polls are fickle and very susceptible to manipulation by the media, both mainstream and social. The more they can portray impeachment to be a one-sided affair, the better it will be for them.
