Jack

They're probably not going to have good earnings until after the Quest starts shipping.

Syquest says earnings will be out by 15 Feb 98 syquest.com. Zacks report earnings will be reported 3 Feb.

Only one analyst appears to be following Syquest, thus there is not a lot of professional guidance here. The EPS for Q1 ending 12/97 is $-1.01 . The EPS for Q2 ending 3/98 is $1.85 . Syquest said in 10/97 that it did not expect Q1 to be profitable. It later stated (11/97) that orders for SparQ were greater than expected and in 12/97 they said they would ship 50,000 SparQ drives in Q1.

My guess, Syquest will need at least $42 million in revenues to be profitable in Q1. This amount could be higher, depending the amount of advertising they buy.

Based on the number of SparQ drives they say they are shipping, I estimate SparQ will contribute about $10 million to Q1 revenues. Which leaves a lot ($32 million) to be made up elsewhere. My guess, they will fall about $7 million short in Q1 or about -$0.10 EPS for Q1. Which ain't bad considering where they have been.

I like the way Syquest market's its new drives--selling first to retailers then to wholesellers. The best wholesale price I have seen for the SparQ is $183, which means they are probably selling Spark for about $147.

I'm looking to be a buyer of SYQT at $2.40. SYQT is my stock pick of the year, next to TLK.

I'm Out of Here!
