AMZN has their own clothing lines; shorts, shirts paints which are of good quality. A TLRD acquisition would go along ways to expand & grow that segment of AMZN's business.
Why would AMZN buy a B&M company in a shrinking category (formal wear)? It doesn’t make any sense. I read somewhere that AMZN is now the largest cloth retailer, larger than Wal Mart in fact. They sell general use stuff like polo shorts, jeans and underwear. The competition from AMZN is becoming an issue for generic stuff like Hanes underwear or polo shirts where AMZN pricing is hard to beat for any retailer that has to deal with B&M overhead. It’s a problem for the malls and outlet centers that have a lot of clothing retailers in the,. The stronger brands go direct to consumer (Nike, Adidas being good examples).

I guess I will dedicate next week to take a look at TLRD (perhaps we can correspond about it in PM). It seems such an undeniably bad investment that it is not to difficult to find something that indicates that it's current situation is indeed crappy. However, the question is whether this crappy situation will become less crappy in 2-5 year or so. Humans tend to extrapolate things so looking at the price of the common, their answer to this question has been "NO, it is bad and it will only get worse". Luckily, even if you do not share this view you can still buy the shares for a price reflecting other people's pessimistic opinion on it: what a world.

As this is the last message before I go to sleep, I just throw in a relevant quote: "Being dead does not imply that your are broke" (paraphrasing the corporate raider in Other People's Money).

Re: TLRD

"I always though this company would be a good acquisition for AMZN"

I think the company is a prime candidate for a takeover, whether it be AMZN or another company/PE Firm. In August, their were rumors that Sycamore Partners were willing to pay $10 a share for the company. It didn't materialize. However, I wouldn't be surprised if after a few good quarters another PE Firm or larger company came in and acquired them.
