Janice, the way I understand how it went off is Tripp was going to testify that she knew of the Lewinsky affair. Tripp called Lewinsky to tell her that,so that she would be prepared when starr supeaoned her.

Why did Tripp feel she ought to go telling tales to Jones's lawyers? And there is the question of hearsay evidence, raised here last night. Was Tripp then encouraged to tape the calls so that the "evidence" wouldn't be hearsay? What sort of person needlessly betrays a supposed friend in this way? And Starr didn't initially subpeona Lewinsky; Jones's lawyers did.

All of this began because the Jones contingent was trying to gather evidence (which in the end may be inadmissable in court) which would support allegations that Clinton had affairs outside his marriage. It's about Jones's civil suit, not saving the nation.

I say Tripp has an angle. Someone should check her bank accounts.
