Jyoti: I had some money in Fidelity Emerging Market fund,performed rather well in 93-95 (was up over 100% 3yrs),but the trouble started in 96 and I saw gradual deterioration starting to set in and so I got out.I am glad I did,and you know the rest of the story.But the deal with mutal funds they say is that you have to be in it at least 5-10 years to make some money,unless you get lucky or something.

Jyoti;
<<I fully agree investing in SE Asia is a mine field now. But I strongly feel the valuation in SE Asia are very low and there ought to be some real bargains. With the talent on this thread we should be able to come up with some great ideas.>>

I agree, we should be able to, but it truly is not easy to get the research here that we are used to in the States so it is a slow and plodding process. Nevertheless, there is no question there are real values here. I am very interested in mining the small caps here as some are heavily engaged in high tech export products that may have huge potential. But the old axiom of "Its WHO you know" applies here more then anywhere. The scenario B. Tate lays out, in which he hints at a specific date or event, that results in a market event is very much believable here. Its not a good playground for the kinds of stock analysis I see here at SI. But small cap here means penny stocks so there is some fun to be had and I plan to play. Just a question of when and with whom.
Best,
Stitch

Tom mentioned he may have 10 or so candidates that fit his bill. Maybe he'll be willing to share some names. In principle, I think it's too early to jump in now. The comeback story will be long and enduring. There is no rush, IMHO.
