Re: Storage demand vs. bandwidth. irthrifty, I admire your rational approach to disk drive space; however, my experience is that the higher bandwidth (along with more horsepower) gives me more things to fill up my drive even faster.

I finally migrated this week from a ThinkPad (486/50,24) with 540kb to a desktop (P-II/233,32Mb) with 4.2Gb. After a week, I can see a need for bigger drive and still a second one for backup.

Just one of the freebie games (Mechwarrior2/Win95) takes 220Mb of hdd space even though it runs from the CD. Yes, I look forward to really big bandwidth, high speed, access to net and the new storage alternatives that will spawn, but I will still want a big hdd to store MY stuff. We cannot get people to give up their personal cars for public transportation. I don't think the info super highway will fare any differently. : )
