Satyr...Mike Burke has been a poster on Prodigy for years, with his "Ask Mike Burke" topic, and has proven time and time again that he doesn't know his hind-end from his elbow. The only credit that I give him is that "1906" MAY have been a typo. Stephen

stuffing doesn't raise revenue..
here's the formula.
exchange2000.com

have burke explain how does stuffing raise rev.
it doesn't
one element gos up and anouther subtracts it out.
cpq has 5 weeks of channel . that's a 50% reduction form last yr.
plus internal inventory is turning 50% faster.
cpq got caught on this in 1986,1985 can't rmember and they had me write a program to fix it.

recent reports say january sale thoug is great.
I'm buying 25 cpq's this month and another server from full of equipment.
repeat, any shipements to micro etc. do not raise revenue for 4th qtr.
IF MICRO IS OVER THE PLANNED INVENTORY
MY GUESS IS SINCE MOST THE DEALERS BEING PHASED OUT WILL IMPACT REV.
CPQ TOOK A RESERVE IN 4QTH Q FOR THIS SUBTRACTING OUT A BUNCH OF SALES TIL THEY KNOW THEY ARE SOLD.

RE:
"BTW, I have no position at all in Compaq at the moment, other than as the owner of a crappy machine that they cannot fix".

Is "they" a retail store, a dealer, a local computer shop or Compaq itself? Is it a Prersario, Deskpro, ...?

You have some resources here (heavyduty computer techs who lurk here) who would help if you posted some more detailed info.

I once had a crappy MBZ 300SD that local dealer did not fix well. Local Benz shop had it working perfectly in 1/2 hour.
