Assuming AMAT makes their projected $2.15 this year, eps of $2.21 next year is ridiculously low IMO. I don't know where these guys come up with their #'s. This year is expected to be flat, not next year. Maybe these guys truly know something......and maybe there are hot dog stands on Mars<G>

Paul, GM, All,

Re: "AMAT: PAINE WEBBER has reiterated estimate for long term EPS
growth of 25.00% per year on 01/20/98
AMAT: PAINE WEBBER has reiterated estimate for quarter ending
01/98 of $0.51 on 01/20/98
AMAT: SOUNDVIEW FINL made new estimate for fiscal year ending
10/99 of $2.21 on 01/16/98"

So right now Soundview's estimate sits at $2.21 for FY 99. IMHO, alot of what will drive the stock is whether this number (and the '98 number) is headed north or south from here. We all know they can change these numbers in a flying flash. And in the past the analysts wait until it is painfully obvious to make changes. (And too darn late.)

Point here is that $2.21 is subject to change without notice, and the fundamentals of the Chip industry will drive that change.

JMO,
Teri
