Marcie: Well I'm glad to see that there is a takeover discussion happening. There hasn't been much chatter about a takeover on this thread in a while.

I'm not sure that INTC would be a suitor for DEC. If the current settlement receives FTC approval, then INTC already has the part of DEC that they are likely interested in - the Alpha patents and the fabrication facility. I don't think any of the rest of DEC (i.e., services and systems) are really of much interest to INTC since they are not part of INTC's main business. Now, if INTC were planning on diversifying into other areas outside of their traditional markets (i.e., Microprocessors and chips) then they might be interested in DEC, but then they would probably be interested in a whole lot of other computer makers as well. I don't see INTC as a suitor.

IMO, likely candidiates would be drawn from the other big computer systems manufacturers. Compaq, for example, was in talks with DEC in the past, and is the most common name that has been suggested on this thread.
