lol. I thought my kids would be like my husband and myself- when I left the house at 20, I never came back, and except for gifts from my parents, and a small loan to help us with our first house (very small) from my mom- we weren't a drain on either set of parents.

My kids all still live at home- saving all their money. We paid their way through school so they would have no loans, so they are better off than many of their peers- but that took money off the table for my husband and me.

The people we know with grandkids are 1. being unpaid daycare or 2. welcoming back kid AND grandkid to the family home. I can't imagine. My husband and I have talked about this, and (of course) we'd help our kids when ever necessary- but dang, I don't miss babies and little kids, at all. But worst of all, I think, in this country, is the uncertainty people have over health care and education- two huge potential expenses for the young that people in the EU don't have to worry about. And of course healthcare affects everyone of every age. Sucks to be in the US.
