Roger,

My pick in the oil industry is again Stone Energy (SGY). They move very predictably with the fluctuations in oil price and are an excellent long once oil prices bottom. A very well run company too.

Very interesting action on CFON and AVNT.
Looking at the intrday charts, it seems both of them went down on a very heavy volume and then back up on a light volume (retail buys may be).
In case of CFON the up movement clearly seems to be initial short covering when it hit 4 1/2, with AVNT it seems suckers are doing the retail low-volume buying pushing it slightly up.

Roger, my pick in the oilfield sector would be FGII, Friede Goldman for a long position. They build rigs and are growing >150% annually. Earnings are out soon. Stock has had a tremendous run and was hammered down. Mark covered ESV today. ESV could rebound greatly once the momentum in this sector is going to return, but that might take a while. We're still in that bear market and each time ESV goes up, it is subject to profit taking and falls back to where it is today.
Billionaire Richard Rainwater has a stake in this well managed company.
Hope this helps.
Michael
