MM's can create the 'illusion' of selling and volume by 'churning' to eachother. When you see buys on the bid, consider that one MM selling to the other to get the price of the stock down. Paricularlly when MM's are low in inventory, they will sell/short 'naked' ( no cert to back the transaction ) Shareholders can demand their certificates, if the MM's have sold more than the float, and the TA demands the MM's to buy shares on the open market (certs) to cover their naked short position, you have a squeeze.
