I've read a few sites about this issue and there doesn't seem to be any consensus on the effectiveness of using chestnuts to repel spiders, but I don't think it can hurt to try. It was kind of funny though. When we first gathered them there were hundreds of them laying about. When we went back about a week later to get more of them and they were all all gone. I bet all the neighbors gathered them up to repel their spiders in their houses.
