Respond to of 37330 Interesting times for sure Swan. Not knowing TO and wherever he was talking about I got thinking about my preconceptions and what I read... Gangs , shootings, Carabana, etc. I guess that's diversification and don't point any fingers, we are doing our thing. Not the Ontario Don grew up in. At 85 he isn't moving on. He's had a big following for a lot of years but he seems to have really crossed a line this time. He was too bombastic for my liking, but people are just too easily offended these days. I'm a dinosaur too. Remembrance Day and all, I always think of my Dad. He came back from Europe with his prejudices and past them on. He hated the Boche, much of that coming from his experiences as a survivor of Operation Jubilee. I can cut him slack on this one. "... In the end, however, most of the tank crews were either captured as prisoners of war or died in action. The raid at Dieppe proved fatal for some 13 soldiers of the Calgary Regiment, two of which were officers. Thirty-three others were wounded, and 138 taken prisoner...." He had utter disdain for Italians, "They quit". No doubt this was reinforced by whatever horrors he witnessed on the march thru Sicily and Italy on the way to Holland. We never had pizza, lasagna, spaghetti etc.. Wasn't allowed in the house. Not a big deal growing up, I certainly wasn't going to stamp my feet and demand pizza. . He had the utmost respect for the Gurkhas. He had some experiences with them that impressed him forever. Many of my childhood friend's dads were vets. Looking back I realize what a privilege it was to be raised around these men. Thru volunteering and community they were involved in our lives in a real positive fashion.
