Christine,

Maybe we both are naieve...or at least we want to be. I know past leaders have lied to us...at least it was not flaunted. Most of my heros turned out to be very mortal...at least I had some heros and I was able to reach maturity (although some may disagree) before they
were exposed for their shortcomings. I guess my point is, my generation was allowed to believe in something better and to try to achieve the same. We did not look at everything so negatively. While that has its downside (i.e. disappointment when faced with reality,) the upside is certain self disciplines, attributes, etc were set into a state of habbit. Once a hero or two faltered then the person could decide if his/her life were totally built on fiction or if they had the fortitude to continue to improve themselves.

We are imperfect...we will always be imperfect..it's just a matter of what level of imperfection is acceptable to each of us.
