As a kid my Grandfather would turn over an acre or more with a shovel each year and I'd break the clumps with a rake. A shovel, rake and sledge hammer is all you need as a kid to skip the weights and work outs for the rest of your life.

Sounds like me as a kid stacking literally tons of cabbages each dark and dreary November for the family food biz (egg roll fodder LOL) Child labour was best as we were small and could squeeze in more :))

Yes your planting will be tedious.. and for sure rent.. the walk behind for 1.5 acres is a lot.. I have only 1 qtr acre !! and it consumes time.. and large area of berry bushes gets only hand weeding so I am tilling maybe 1/8 acre .. each year I figure out more time savers... I may eliminate 90% of my weeding next year with black plastic from Home Depot (or Lowes etc) .. tried it this year and it worked great..

Good luck

Be sure to post your further adventures :))
