Pacific Gas and Electric announced it would shut off power for the fourth time in two months to a wide swath of Northern California in another attempt to prevent wildfires from igniting.

These Public Safety Power Shut-offs (PSPS) are starting to feel like the new normal for some in PG&E's coverage area. Many were left without power for days at a time last month.

To find out if your address will be impacted, PG&E suggests using its address lookup tool on its website.
PG&E meteorologists anticipate high winds will move into Northern California early Wednesday morning and clear out by Thursday mid-morning. At that point, PG&E workers can start inspecting power lines and, in cases where there's no damage, start turning the power back on within 24 to 48 hours.
The shut-offs will likely happen in phases, depending on the forecast. The hour-by-hour timing of the shut-offs has not yet been announced by PG&E.
Some local agencies are informing residents when they anticipate to lose power in the case of a PSPS. For example, Contra Costa County said if the forecast holds, the power will start shutting off at 1 p.m. Wednesday. If you live in an area currently on watch for a PSPS, sign up for Nixle alerts and check your local agencies' social media channels for more precise information as it becomes available.>
