I have spent time thinking about this and discussing this with my husband. As I am sure you are aware, the reptilian cortex is involved with both sexual response and violence. Because these emotions are so basic and so powerful, I think they do have the abillity to overwhelm our reason and cause us to act in ways destructive to ourselves and to society. It is difficult to be permissive on the one hand, where sexual conduct is concerned, and regulate firmly agressive conduct. I am not saying it can't be done, but it will be difficult to find a way to do it that people will buy into. And for morality to succeed, you do need people to belive in it.
