When you have a chance, google up a few of his interviews. I think he does them wonderfully - he’s humble, gentlemanly, insightful. In one if them, I recall, he tells the story about how he decided to change his career from being a poet to a singer - because he had to earn money, to make a living. He taught himself to play guitar, and packed up and went to Nashville. It was funny - the same story as with young girls going to Hollywood to become movie stars. Just about the same odds, too.

I saw him in concert in Madison Square Garden, in 2009. He was wonderful. At that time he did a global tour, sold out 120 venues all over the world. Loved what he was doing. It seems, in his last years he became especially creative and productive - put out a number of albums, one after another.

Here’s a Cohen interview which is new to me. At the end, though, no other than Al Gore takes up a minute or so.

This one is a (brief) speech he gave in Spain.

And, one from the “Old Ideas” cycle. The Darkness.

Leonard Cohen = I didn't know of him until about 10 or 13 years ago. I listened and watched a LOT to see what he'd done. Closing Time my favourite and the video with it.

Interesting things around him such as Bono, admiringly envious of Leonard's linguistic skill, saying Leonard would throw out things that Bono couldn't even invent.

He did have a way with words. And music. I don't know who or how it was put together though.

What else is there we don't know about or hasn't been invented yet? Tradable Citizenship for Free Enterprise and private property writ large for example. Graviton spin reversal. The sky's the limit. Meanwhile evil shifty Schiff and swarms of the atavistic bastards take us down.

The world of knowledge, science, technology, art, possibility, is expanding at such a pace all we can do is cling to a little bit and hope it gets through for our time. But I suppose it was always like that with normal, accustomed times regularly overthrown.
