The first time I clicked on skinowski's link I got a Jewish scholar discussing the word Halleluja. Said it was an ancient Hebrew compound word. Hallelu means we shall worship. Ja or Ya is an ancient Hebrew word for God.

Said it was never translated probably because it was considered too Holy to change.
