It's coming up to 30 years since Globalstar was planned. 30 years down the drain. And umpty $billions. And huge Search and Rescue costs that should have been straight rescue (or recovery in the case of the lost Malaysian airliner) and the swarms of lives lost because they didn't have trackers such as SPOT because SPOT ongoing charges were stupidly high.

Globalstar could have been the biggest business in the world. Both physically and economically and number of users --- but with very low arpu.

Another half year gone by since your comment. Just noticed the share price which says they are just carrying on down the gurgler.

It was 27 years ago that Globalstar lit up my hopes from Qualcomm perspective. It is a third of a century since I sat in Antwerp wondering whether my employer at the time could do basically that. I was very excited to see my hopes turning to reality.

Forever men have dreamed such dreams. By men I mean not women. They are not the same creatures despite the insane modern blather. Which is not to say the Islamic burka ideology is right either. Nor the traditional alpha male territorial genocidal found wealth conquering dominance hierarchy.

That aside, it feels like Globalstar was like Titanic. A splendid creation of amazing proportions driven into an iceberg by hopeless crew.

Men sure do think Big. Sometimes they succeed. The winnowing process over 10s of thousands of years has led to amazing DNA. The losers are eliminated from the gene pool. The women choose the successful.

And so it goes.

So far Elon is succeeding where Globalstar failed. But the market test is yet to come. He has several children too so he's succeeding there as well.
