Yes on plea bargaining, sort of, essentially same outcome.

Jury trial for serious stuff. Everyday stuff w/ open / shut case mostly by judge. Appeal upward. All cost money.

Believe can insist on jury trial but if lose, the tab may be larger as jury cost money from somewhere.

The banker is phucked-ed in open / shut case unless he comes across believable to the magistrate judge.

All very time absorbing.
