Carter,

Dish Network was the first DBS company to provide local affiliates. This is breaking news. One of the biggest complaints of DBS was that locals were not available. I thought everyone knew this?

Dish Network is bound by law NOT to provide you your local signals. Certainly, they would love to sell it to you, but legally, they cannot. It is not their fault. I'm surprised they went ahead and gave it to you anyway.

I bet that if you put an antenna in your attic, you could get your local stations. Did you try it?

Also, your local affiliates can challenge you if they wish and make Dish discontinue your local service. Did you know that? If I were you, I would have just kept the one dish for now and ordered Primetime 24. It is $5.99 and it gives you 2 CBS, 2 NBC, 2 ABC, 1 Fox and 1 PBS Station. (See primetime24.com ). Of course, you would not get your local news, and you would have had to lie about your eligibility to get it. It would have saved you the trouble of a second dish for a while.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it just seems to me that you did not do enough homework before you went out and made your purchase. If I were you, I'd start reading some of the newsgroups:

alt.dbs.echostar
rec.video.satellite.dbs

Seriously, no disrespect intended.

Carter,

Also, did you buy your dish directly from Echostart? If so, you paid a premium. I purchased a Model 5000 system in November for $199.

Continuing my story that began of post #580 at address

www4.techstocks.com

A very helpful customer service representative, Wolfgang, has read my postings on both this thread and on The Motley Fool. He apologized for my troubles and has credited my account for 3 free months of Showtime.

While I am thankful that the company has given me something for my dilemna, I am still perplexed that they are not better organized. There installation procedures are terrible. Their CSRs are uninformed. Their marketing department is deceptive. My point is, while Echostar does alot of things right, they also do alot of things poorly. I'd like to see them make a serious committment to improve in these areas instead of making apologies and going back to "business as usual".
