This is encouraging:

New York--Jan 23--COMEX Feb gold futures stormed to a 2-month
high of $301.00 per ounce on the slide in the dollar against other
currencies. Feb ended up $9.10 at $300.40 per ounce, making a late
break through the psychologically important $300.00 resistance level.
Gold's momentum helped to carry silver higher, with Mar settling up
17.5 cents at $5.893 after hitting $5.940. The gold-silver jump was
ignored by platinum and palladium, which fell on physical selling and
fund profit-taking.
