John: I'm sorry to hear about your Win95 problems.

I should confess that I'm the one who was using your computer's modem. I've just been so busy lately, I needed another modem. I know this isn't the best modem modus operandi, and I deeply regret the inconvenience, but I was desperate.

Seriously, though, I'm pleased to hear that everything is running again. You mean to say you had to reload everything on C? Major downer.

What do you think caused the problem?

Brooke

Modem used by another? This sounds something like what is happening here for the first time this morning. Except for a little while this afternoon when for unknown reasons ... the problem disappeared. Netscape could surf the net OK but I could not raise the ISP's mail server to send or receive and that problem is still going on.

I thought it might be Netscape 4.04, messenger but the same thing is going on in the other box that has the modem the two computers share via WinGate and ethernet.

Odd that the problem disappeared and then returned.
