My dentist doesn't use solid porcelain, only porcelain over noble metal. I asked him which type of crown would hold up best, given my bite, and he recommended the gold crown. The crown is on a molar so it isn't really visible. The difference in price was negligible.

Hi Josh,

Good discussion about crowns. I might need one.

Yeah, hate dentists but thankful I'm at a new one with a calm and quiet nature (no conversation yay!!!) and a very steady hand.

A long time poster on SI had crowns put on his molars years ago with no root canal. My dentist said they can still do a root canal if you need one with a crown already in place, they just drill through the crown.
