Jim, I don't think it is so much a party-line split as a split between realists/pragmatists and idealists (and not a few Clintophobes). As I just wrote to my friend Alexa, we all have our uses. As long as everyone - if only in secret - realizes that we are right.

jim:

Republicans or Democrats, they're two sides to the same federalist coin. Get the macro picture and you can see the game better.

Is this a Republican thread?

Not really. According to CGB, EVERYONE at SI is a libertarian. Even when some of us insist that we're registered Democrats or Republicans. No no. We MUST be libertarians.

I really don't understand, but this seems to be an ironclad Rule.

(I'm a Democrat, by the way, dare I confess?)

No, Jim, this is definitely not a Republican thread, although there may definitely be some Republicans who post here, just as there are Democrats and everyone else. Anyway, to me at least there are more differences between people's political belief systems based on whether they are conservative, moderate, or liberal than based on what party they identify with, and then of course you have to remember some people are one way on social issues, and another way on economic issues.
