Today, 35 yr olds live at home. In '89 they had apartments, worked hard
and didn't whine about min. wage and being a victim or offended. This
gave them incentive to improve their lives, or learn to live with what they had.

Woody, good point there has been a huge demographic / societal change. When I think back to my early work years (74), we just had the oil embargo, people were being laid off and were headed to a recession. Jimmy Carter told us that we had to lower our expectations. The generations that preceded us tended to look down on us. It was almost like an internationalization war. According to them , we didn't have their work ethic and according to us we didn't trust anyone over 30. Japan was going to eat our lunch.

I try to look at the overall big picture and what has occurred in the intervening years. We had massive illegal immigration and we literally exported most of our manufacturing jobs and are in the process of exporting many of our service jobs (call centers). Meanwhile, the professional level prospered.

The cities are rapidly losing their middle class, because the COL is so oppressive and some of the middle class was pushed down to a lower tier.

The path of upward mobility has changed / diminished. Cultural changes aside the what worked in the 70's will not be as successful today. We told all the kids that they HAD to get a degree. Meanwhile many non-STEM degrees are hard to monetize. Non degree skill jobs that pay well are left open because they are fewer candidates to fill and are despised by the collegiate ranks.

Meanwhile, DJT watched this unfold and felt compelled to take it on. It is no wonder that he is the champion of the blue collar, non-college educated class. He is attracting record percentages of Blacks and Hispanic. The MSN thinks they can paint him (DJT) as a racist, but in reality what Donald Trump is doing is helping them as well. Illegal immigration and off-shoring of jobs hurts the poor and middle class. No one has stood for them in principle and action before.

Yep, some of that generation is a lost cause, but many are waking up.....
