Ty and OtherChap: Zip is still the most cost effective for me. I have an external zip drive that I can shuttle among my family's three computers as needed, making periodic file backups, transferring stuff between machines, etc. External, rewritable CD-ROM drives are still around $500 on up, although the write once media are quite a bit cheaper (especially with rebates) than zip disks. OTH, zip disks can be rerecorded indefinitely, which I didn't think was the case with CD-ROM rewritable (isn't there a limit of 15 times or something like that?). I think the Jazz drive is much more vulnerable to writable CD-ROM technology than is the Zip system, from a price/performance point of view. Still, I am watching the CD-ROM prices with great interest, and eventually will own one most likely. :-)
