<<It was funny. Catching. Self-effacing. Linked to crowd scenes and cheering. Pretty good really IMO. >> I assume you were talking about the ad. As usual, you are quite astute with your prognosis for the Q's ultimate destination. Even though such a destination will be a highly touted prize, it has the ability to be a much more dramatic feat than even you (Imagineer Extraordinair) have envisioned.. Ford started car assembly in the early 1900's. Cars became big time in the early 50's. Around the same time Edison commercialized electric generation. Didn't GE become a household name as the the suburbs got built after the war? IBM started crunching numbers in the late 20's and became big time in the late 60's. Sam Walton started selling in the early 50's and reach his peak just before his death. These are all household names which have transcended 2 or 3 generations. Now Microsoft, Intel and possibly Cisco (I don't know much about them) are coming to the end of their 1st generation. qdog will be happy to hear that, IMO, Bill, Andy and whoever will be passing the torch within the next few (less than 5) years. Who is going to catch it? Who knows, who cares. The Q will be leading the parade. Now our beloved Q is 12 years old. The founders have been in the biz since the mid 70's (my guess). However, they seem pretty spry and in-touch guys. Again, IMO, they will be at it for another 10 years. Sometime between now and then your reckoning will materialize. The spry guys will be able to bask in the glory while passing the torch and planning for a long and deserved retirement. Who will it be Paul Jr, Janice (NextWave) or ??. Do you think that even this detail has not been contemplated? It's not just the feat. It's also the timing, the team and the future. Folks like Jacobs, Schwartz and Viterbi are in a different league than those other one-(maybe two)-horse ponies. jmho, nf
