It's not a farce. it protects minority states from being shut out of the process. The rest of the country would have no reason to remain in the union if states like California and New York were able to control the Presidency in every election. This is especially the case when one looks at the way that California has arranged its political system so that it resembles a one party political state along the lines of a communist country. There is just no way that states like Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, Kansas, and others would go along with a Union that could be dominated by California's socialist voters.

There is a reason that there are no "pure" democracies in the world. They would trample on minorities and this is something the founding fathers made every effort to prevent.

And by the way, alcohol is a drug.
