Vodaphone trial details to be released February 11 or 12, so I hear. Feb. 11 is the annual analysts meeting. Now if the company can get a couple of European companies to overlay CDMA, it will be the deathknell for GSM.

bdog:

Any high frequency RF signal will have a hard time penetrate
a metal box with no hole. This is not a CDMA problem, it is a
known phenomenon for these RF signals.

The way to cover subway is to put little attennas in the
subway ceilings/walls. On the back of the attenna, there
is a cable that connects it to the cell site.

Submarines can communicate with very low frequency <20 Hz,
which can penetrate the ocean floor. But for high data
rate transmission, it has to surface and use another frequency
to talk to the satellite.

Try to listen to your portable AM/FM radio next time you get in
an elevator. And listen again when the door just open a little
bit. You will know why GSM, CDMA, AMPS phone just won't work
in a metal box.
