You recommended the "The Making of the English Working Class" which was depressingly reflective of modern times. It was actually kind of horrifying because of the shear repetition of the same evils being repeated at 50 year intervals for centuries. My history classes never really provided that clarity. Vis-à-vis the political insanity... People hardly even feel the shock of the Supreme Court overseeing the coronation of the Bush/Cheney cabal TWICE anymore. We live in anti-democratic times and rightfully angry. I'm not going to post pictures of anyone hanging from a tree but yeah, if heart attacks were to be had, I'd shed no tear. Despots, potentates and dictators, and anyone who would crap on the majority of people and expect adulation for it, or who stirs discontent and foments bigotry, or colludes with foreign dictators who abuse their people - them too. Anyone who supports what Dear Leader does and says to do - including beating up the opposition whose only deed was peaceful protest would do the world a favor by exiting. My spouse chooses to be a little more frank than others on this matter but the sentiment is common to a lot of folks I know. We have been compromising with the Republican blight for most of my life when D's have power, and being subsumed into their brutality when they have the helm. A whole lot of people have messed things up and contributed to the most egregious examples of outright treason, sedition against the legitimate civil authority of "the People" and what appears to be open criminality, cronyism and nepotism. How are we to react? With emotionless aloofness and tolerance? My wife is right - people need to be angry - not mobs in the street "angry" but grab your friends and neighbors and APPEAR in the streets "angry". No broken windows or Molotov's but with signs and chants and work stoppages. There are a long list of people that the world would be better off if they choked on tonight's dinner roll or suffered a massive stroke. I'd not blame anyone that verbalized it. It is not "uncivil" because this comprises a significant number of well-armed and religiously hypocritical people, who would not leave it to nature, but gladly put us to our end with a bullet or a physical assault. Wishing them a heart attack is benign by comparison. I don't expect you to join us - but castigating us as being like them is inaccurate and denies the legitimacy of our deep disappointment and rage at what has transpired.
