Adrian,

"AMD's process is more advanced than Intel's , but it is also employed to manufacture the DEC Alpha (which Samsung is manufacturing). So, it is not untried."

Yes, I do agree with you that AMD's process is more advanced in its own way. However, Intel's 0.35um process was designed and achieved to produce an ungodly number of devices at very low price, in which AMD's process did come short. Witness the production might of Pentium processors.

Further more, AMD's process came from IBM; AMD is still paying royalties to IBM. As I recall, DEC's Alpha was fabricated on a three or four layer metal process. Therefore, my claim still stands --- AMD's 0.35um process is still untried for mass-production (level of AMD's expectation not embarrassing reality).

"It was Intel's plan to kill the Socket 7 before the end of 97."

Where are you getting all these nonsense. Since it takes almost an entire quarter to complete a processor, you have to be very sure of what you put into the fabrication queue. To replace a whole product line such as important as P/MMX, you need to phase it out slowly. I can see that you would make a very lousy executive for a semiconductor company.

"Isn't Intel planning on Slot 1's obsolesence already?"

Again, where are you getting all these nonsense. I have not read anywhere that Slot-II is going to replace Slot-I. We don't even know what exactly Slot-II is yet.

John.
