Without knowing any details (and just speculating), Red Brick may be more managable or simpler to set up than some of the bigger companies. I know that this is a selling point that IFMX uses against ORCL. The big engines have dozens of parameters to set to properly tune for good performance; this is likely to be worse for engines capable of dual OLTP/OLAP use. Generally an engine must be tuned for one or another, and seldom will do both well for a single tuning.

Red Brick has an opportunity for being a lower maintenance option for the under 50G category, although they will face a lot of competition from Microsoft as they move into this category in the next 2 years.

HP (and others) have interest in anyone that can help them move more machines. They also have several deals with IFMX. It is not much to base any decision on.

In summary, Red Brick will be facing a lot of new competition in its category, and they need to adjust their PR. Using old info just hurts their story and they lose credibility with any customer who really knows the full story. They need to come out with new white papers and lay out a new strategy to meet the new and different competition. Judge them on how well and how quickly they move to do that.
