Lorne:with Regard To The Banks Merger In Canada..............

I see you are from Ontario. If you have been following the market for
a couple of years or more, you may have heard rumblings of this at
least a few times in the past. The reasoning has usually been that a
larger " entity " would have more success internationally. That is,by
pure size they are able to compete with large American and European
institutions on a global scale. There has been movement towards opening
the banking sector up to " foreign " competition as well.Canadians
can now trade equities through American discount brokers, such as
E-Trade etc. and TD bought a New York firm last year or so to offer
Americans better access to Canadian markets.......so they say:-)So (I)
don't equate this move as anything related to the SEAsian situation,
but that same situation may have given them the impetus to move sooner
than later. They have exposure there, but nothing on a level to cause
internal weakness that would " make " them have to merge.I don't
know what Ole/49r is refering to re:Fiscal Policy...unless she is
refering to our Central bank maybe.........

On the Gold subject, most information I can find at this time indicate
futher upside possible unless CBers come in or producers in countries
where their dollar is low step up to the plate and sell into the
" rushlet ".Monday itself may be very critical. The very strong finish
on Friday was encouraging. We shall see..........

Mr. Haney from our FP has his usual humourous take on things.........
