Tie Ratios

The lower tie ratios really trouble me this quarter. This is really one of the most important issues brought out by the call.

Weren't Zip tie ratios either flat or even for several quarters despite increasing OEM sales? This is why I never really believed the bears arguments about more OEMs=lower profits.

I guess the bears were right, this time.

I thought that the lower tie ratios due to OEM drives were offset by expanding tie ratios on the retail side coupled with a larger installed base. I would have expected continual improvement in tie ratios over time due to people buying disks for their old Zips.

I know that several years ago I just kept buying lots of floppy disks and had many collecting dust. I would expect this same kind of phenomena to happen with Zip.

Well, I do expect an improvement in tie ratios this quarter, at least.

>>Maybe I missed it in the flood of posts today, but in case it wasn't already posted, here are the short interest numbers from todays Investors Business Daily:
Jan 15: 13,816,659
Dec 15: 10,778,481
up 28%

After today, who knows.<<

Daniel -

The stock was split on December 22nd, so this reveals a substantial decrease in short interest, not a 28% increase, since the numbers for December were not restated to account for the split.

The restated number comparison is:

Dec 15: 21,556,962
Jan 15: 13,816,659
