My next-door neighbor invited a dozen people without families
over for Thanksgiving.(my neighbor has 9 kids, none in AZ)

Everyone was sitting around chatting over cocktails, trying very
hard NOT to talk politics. There was much tension in the air, but
no one wanted to be first to break the ice.

Finally dinner was ready and we were rehashing football and the weather
for the 12th time.
I wanted to bring up politics, in a light hearted way, and suddenly
I asked one guy(85yo), who I know from the Computer Club, if he
knew who mini-AOC is. During the process of explaining that mini-AOC
is a parody of AOC, we all found out that we are all Trump supporters.
The relief at being able to speak freely was palpable. The rest of the
evening was a hit!

A few days later, I was smoking cigars with both neighbors, and the
neighbor who hosted the Thanksgiving dinner mentioned how nice
it was to discover that all of his friends are Trump supporters, like minded.

I live in a very nice neighborhood.

And isolated. Look at us here. All of us are sitting at computers or tablets posting. We should be interacting with people face to face more.

Most of us grew up in an age of segregation based on factors such as race, status, re;religion. We sought out an integrated and more open society. Now we self segregate based more on ideology other than other factors. I asked my self the question about why I post / read on SI. Seeking out similar minded folks with similar interests.

You are correct but we seem to be slowly losing the ability to have meaningful discussions with those whom we disagree. The left preaches tolerance but seems the most intolerant.
