Ameritech to Triple Revenue Growth From New Products in 1998, Announces Two New Products Available Nationwide

CHICAGO -- In 1997, Ameritech's core communications business generated almost $100 million in revenue growth from new products and services, and the company's goal in 1998 is to triple that growth, said Richard C. Notebaert, Ameritech chairman and chief executive officer, in a media briefing today. Notebaert also unveiled two new communications services, one for consumers and one for businesses, that Ameritech (NYSE: AIT) will provide nationwide during 1998.

"We listen intently to customers, so we can turn their needs and ideas into new communications products that make their lives easier and their businesses more productive," Notebaert said. "Ameritech's new product momentum is building, and in 1998 we expect our product development pipeline to deliver a wide array of new services and products."

Part of this 1998 revenue growth is expected to come from two new products Ameritech will offer across the United States:

-- A new nationwide consumer service, SecurityLink Paging, gives

customers new ways to ensure safety and security for themselves and

their families. This new service enables customers to receive pages

from their home security system -- either in an emergency or just for

peace of mind. With the service, customers receive a page if an alarm

goes off or if the system is disabled. Parents can receive pages when

latch-key kids get home from school, with a code that identifies which

child has returned. Baby-sitters can page parents with the touch

of a button to ask for a call back or to let parents know the kids are

asleep. This service will be rolled out during the first quarter

across the United States through SecurityLink(SM) from Ameritech, which

is the second-largest security monitoring firm in North America.

Customers can call 1-800-343-4726 for information.

-- A new nationwide business service, 1-800-CONFERENCE(SM), provides

easy-to-use, easy-to-remember nationwide audioconferencing and

videoconferencing service. 1-800-CONFERENCE sets a new, higher

industry standard for connection quality and for customer care,

including personal conference coordinators for each conference and a

wide variety of enhanced features and customization options, backed by

the latest technology. The service enables up to 3,000 people to meet

anytime and anywhere with just one phone call. Ameritech piloted

1-800-CONFERENCE service in Dallas and Minneapolis during late 1997,

and today the service is available nationwide.

Among the new products and services that Ameritech introduced in 1997

were:

-- ClearPath(TM) digital cellular service

-- Pay-per-use call management services, such as three-way conference

calling

-- International long distance, including Ameritech Global Gateway

Services, a wholesale offering, and international calling card services

-- Ameritech.net(SM) Internet dial-up service and Ameritech.net High-Speed
Internet Service, which is based on ADSL technology, and

-- Ameritech Express Cinema(TM), which offers Americast(R) cable TV

customers the top movies every half hour for just $2.95.

In 1998, Ameritech also will strengthen its customer care through improvements in printed communications and a $100 million investment in employee training.

Ameritech serves millions of customers in 50 states and 40 countries. Ameritech provides a full range of communications services, including local and long distance telephone, cellular, paging, security monitoring, cable TV, Internet services and more. One of the world's 100 largest companies, Ameritech (www.ameritech.com) has 74,000 employees, 1 million shareowners and more than $25 billion in assets.
