U.S. rig count up seven to 996

NEW YORK, Jan 23 (Reuters) - The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in the United States stood at 996 as of January 23, up seven from the previous week, and 181 above the year-ago total of 815, Baker Hughes Inc reported.

The number of rigs drilling on land rose by five to 839, while rigs working offshore remained at 132. The number of rigs active in inland waters rose by two to 25.

Among the individual states, the biggest changes occurred in Louisiana, up by 12, and in Kansas, down by six.

The Gulf of Mexico rig count rose by one to 131.

The number of rigs searching for gas fell by three to 595, the number of rigs searching for oil rose by nine to 396, while the number of miscellaneous drilling projects rose by one to five.

There were 241 rigs drilling directionally, 64 drilling horizontally and 691 drilling vertically.

In Canada, the number of working rigs rose by six to 512 versus 415 one year ago.

The weekly rig count reflects the number of rigs exploring for oil and gas, not those producing oil and gas.

Great News Everyone!
Talked to Tom Dorsey from Dorsey Wright and Associates. He is going to come on line under my log-in and offer some insight. I'll post it on the Point and Figure Charting thread.
I'm hoping this will be today. Once a time is set I'll let everyone know. He may hang out on-line and see what everyone's questions and concerns are too. I don't know, it's up to him.
This is a great opportunity to hear from one of the best.
Big-Dog...I'm passing to him this post. I love your 10 reasons for the market being the way it is. I think Tom will get a kick out of it too!
See ya all soon.

Iraq says they are ready for war. They know it's coming and don't care. Can we speculate if we bomb what will that mean for our stocks?Iraq is already pumping oil, will that end the pumping?Tensions have been escalating this week and our stocks have been bashed more in the process--doesn't seem logical does it?Why is the price of oil going down with all this mess with Iraq?

Anybody realize that with the bullish article last Saturady in Barron's that we still finished the week lower than we started(in most of the stocks)?Seems like NOTHING can help us out:earnings,Barron's,upgrades, threat of war,etc.....I've never seen anything like it.

Well the tide's got to turn someday...
