It's not at all complicated or convoluted - that's your thing. Trump gave Putin a heads up before the gang of eight, which got none. I'm sure Putin understood it's to distract from all the new info coming out, endangering his most valuable asset. Putin OK'd it.

Not really. That was not the intent of my comment.

The US has been in opposition to Iran and Russia in Syria all along. And for Trump, Iran has long been a particular nettle. Nothing new in continuing to compartmentalize that.
