Also I have sponge kidney which makes them easier to accumulate :(

at any rate..

  • the D3.. it puts the calcium where it should go..(important will add to that later)
  • lots of water.. I drink minimum 3 litres daily.. maybe 5+ when working outdoors and sweating a lot.. note I garden in summer as a job.. Kidneys process more water and more bad stuff gets carried away faster.. and smaller.. small is key IMO
  • physical activity.. honestly I believe what does form gets shaken off sooner.. when tiny.. and inconsequential

I have not had even a noticeable twinge in many years.. I used to get many twinges and at time minor pain and knew I was passing a stone.. even after starting and finding a good D3 level and starting to drink lots of water.. prior to that I had one per cutaneous (fancy for small incision) to remove stones (one golf ball size in profile but rather thin) and three shock wave therapies subsequent.. as I continued with re exercise, hydration and D3 the stone formation seems to have if not ceased at least become so tiny when they pass that I do not notice... Largest stone I passed 10mm... THAT IS PAIN !!!!

I also have osteoporosis diagnosed about 48.. the D3 and exercise have allowed me to increase my bone density without drugs.. I was prescribed Fosamax.. 9 months in dentist told me tooth mobility was becoming an issue.. so I stopped the drug.. that was one of the driving factors for D3... also all calcium is from diet only.. doing the above I do not worry about Ca causing new stones,..

Originally when diagnosed at 19 with stone, some 44 years ago I was told no dairy, calcium blah blah blah... cut back hard on meat as it leaches Ca..

I had tried Ca supplement.. found all they did was constipate me :) I am already full enough of crap without adding to it :)

My stones are Calcium Oxalate.. the most common type.. I think about 75%... others form from different mechanisms..

I also take lemon juice often in my water.. it helps prevent the oxalate from binding to Ca.. I think though that D3, hydration and exercise are the big three for me...
