... and so whatever the saudis chooses to say, if anything, would be telling, or at the very least a triangulation point, and in any case more telling than any analysis in MSM

In the last decade there have been many assassinations of low level politicians and journalists.
It is on the increase and with the advent of drones likely to increase and move up the food chain.
The Russians have demonstrated they are good at it, same with the Mexican cartels, in the ME
and SA anything is possible.

Net net more assassinations coming. Steve Scalise was came close to being assassinated while playing baseball..
Rand Paul came close to dying from an assault from a neighbor.

Dangerous out there wherever you may be.

Saudis claim they were not consulted;

But looking back a year;
After nearly three weeks of denials, Saudi officials said on October 19 that the journalist Jamal Khashoggi died in an altercation inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

The Saudis' narrative shifted multiple times, even after acknowledging he was killed. The most consistent aspect of their story is the claim that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had no prior knowledge of Khashoggi's killing. Denial and misinformation is not a new thing at the upper echelons of world power. They tell the story. Some believe it wholeheartedly others read logic between the lines. Both had reason to rid the world of the Iranian General. No where is there sorrow except Iran, Iraq Shiites and a few organizations connected to them.

I would suggest it did not happen by luck of the draw. He was a labeled terrorist. Like Bin laden or Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who were also targeted
