I'd appreciate any info you can gather re healthcare of Dobies, even though at this time it is uncertain if I have to keep the dog or the wife :-O

As to your advice, it is sound advice for anyone, dog or human ;)

>> dogs will become what “you” make them. The only deciding factor: How much time are you willing to invest

This is like saying that anyone can be an artist or a writer if they put in enough time. Which is true to a great extent. If you were to put in enough practice in writing or painting, you will become a writer or a painter (though not necessarily a leading prize winner). Yet, there are people who are talented writers or artists and they do practice their craft diligently - it is just that they get a lot more bang for the practice than the rest of us.

The same goes for the dogs. I am sure we can train most dogs to track or even guard (Samoyeds will not be guard dogs no matter what you do). But that doesn't negate the innate talent of some dogs vs others.
